Atomic Beer Project by YSG

Lighting was integral to YSG’s design of the Atomic Beer Project in Redfern. We provided custom red light to enhance its edgy aesthetic and atmosphere. Located in a formerly abandoned mid-century brick warehouse, Atomic Beer Project is microbrewery and restaurant that features vibrant red light and vivid colours in a hedonistic mix of futurism and nostalgia.

The red brick façade is inconspicuous in the laneway, but step inside, and the multi-level space is a labyrinth of energy and colour. YSG Studio exposed the shell of the building, retaining its grungy time-worn elements – brickwork, layered paint and random graffiti – and added acidic colours, slick plastics and gleaming metals to create an otherworldly atmosphere.

Coloured surfaces, furnishings and lighting radiate through the darkened environment, with red light dramatising and intensifying the edgy aesthetic and atmosphere. Small versions of Sphera Maestro tubular lights glow red on each side of the stairs, while longer versions illuminate the red-brick walls of the bathrooms. The red lighting has the familiar flair of modern Pan-Asian dining, as well as harking back to 1980s sci-fi.

Atomic Beer Project also features a custom stainless steel curved Profilo pendant system suspended throughout the dining space. Sphera Ala, Novo Mini, Ago, Binario, Lola Mini, Elle and Mini Square Floodlights provide downlights and spotlights throughout the space, and all lighting is wirelessly adjustable via DALI Automation System.
