Illuminated Elegance: The New Era of Beauty Spaces
In the world of cosmetic and beauty salons, design is breaking free from clinical traditions, embracing aesthetics that prioritise comfort, style, and relaxation. The spaces now reflect a shift towards creating environments that not only provide treatment but offer an experience—one where clients feel nurtured, inspired, and immersed in their surroundings. Projects like Akmē by Biasol Studio, Illumination Lounge by Dani Chiu, and Youth Lab by Russell and George showcase how thoughtful design can transform the clinical setting into a sanctuary, using lighting as an aid to set the tone and elevate the space.

Akmē is a beauty salon located in the heart of South Yarra, designed to be a peaceful retreat for those seeking to enhance their natural beauty. The space blends soft, natural tones and minimalist forms, creating a calming environment that invites clients to relax and rejuvenate. The lighting, including the Dotto and Mattia fixtures from Sphera, beautifully complements the design, casting soft, inviting glows that enrich the tactile experience.

At Illumination Lounge, the lighting plays a pivotal role in more than just illuminating—it defines the mood. Located in a dedicated lash and brow retreat, the space features Sphera’s Binario Track in white, providing minimalist yet highly functional task lighting. The contrast between the vibrant interior palette and the precise lighting creates an inviting atmosphere, fostering a space where self-care takes centre stage.
